Success in foreign lands

~The Cheeguz

Six years in the making, the collection of success stories of Nepali living abroad by
Sarad Adhikari “Bideshma Nepali: Safaltaka Katha” was launched at an event attended
by many public figures, including honorable Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal.

Launching the book, PM Khanal shared, “The book chronicles the success stories of
Nepalese living abroad, who with their determination and hard work have made a mark
in the global arena.”

However, he did express his concern regarding the brain drain which is happening at an
alarming rate, “Today about 3 million Nepali are living abroad and this trend doesn’t
seem to stop anytime soon.

“I think after the constitution is drafted and peace is institutionalized, they will return
home. The country should provide opportunity for today’s youth,” shared an optimistic
Khanal.

Sharing the sentiment and putting their two cents worth on successes and sufferings of
Nepali living in foreign lands were other prominent personalities from different walks of life.

“The book provides a window into the world of NRNs. Some of the stories are really
inspiring,” said Jeevan Bhandari, tourism entrepreneur who is also the publisher of this
book.

“While working as a journalist and writing about NRNs, I got inspired to write a book
about them,” shared author Adhikari who used to write about issues related to NRNs
when he worked with Kantipur National Daily and Samaya Weekly Magazine.

“The book is my individual initiative and I met people individually while writing the
book,” said the writer who started the book in 2005 and visited USA, Europe and the
Middle East for research.

Currently a freelancer, he works as a Public Relations Officer at National Trust for
Nature Conservation.

“It’s usually the tales of sufferings and difficulties faced by Nepali one gets to hear
in the media, but such success stories are indeed heartening and most inspiring,” said
Bhim Udas, a representative from Non-Resident Nepali Association.

The book is priced at Rs. 1500
