This is definitely something that’ll help you ward off all kinds of illness in the winter or any other time of the year. Garlic is also known to reduce the chances of cancer and heart diseases.

Ginger: Spicy and hot to taste, Grandmas swear by this during the winters. Besides giving warmth, ginger eases congestion in the throat and lungs and is just the thing you need in winter. Those suffering from arthritis and other musculoskeletal ailments will find relief in consuming ginger. Ginger also soothes upset stomachs. Add ginger in your curries and better still drink ginger tea.

 

Barley: This ancient grain is a great source of plant protein, B vitamins and fiber. Barley provides enough energy to activate you even in the coldest of temperatures. Also known for its antiviral properties, this grain will help you fight the diseases the winter brings along.

 

Sweet Potatoes: Low in calories but high in immune-boosting compounds, sweet potato is a food that shouldn’t be ignored in the winter. Sweet potato has a lot of vitamin A and C which helps the body withstand bacterial and viral infections.
